The experience
The tour starts at the Latin Bridge in the Old Town, where your guide introduces Sarajevo's layered history. From there you move through the Baščaršija Bazaar and its Sebilj fountain, then into the Coppersmith street: still authentic Ottoman architecture where you can buy local crafts. You'll taste traditional Bosnian coffee in a quiet caravanseray tucked into the Old Town, and visit the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque to learn about the 16th-century builder and the Islamic school, clock tower and covered markets that surround it.
The route then shifts through the city's religious heritage: the Catholic Cathedral, the Orthodox Church, and sites connected to Sarajevo's Jewish history. You'll see where east meets west in the urban layout itself. The second half focuses on the siege and war years from 1992 to 1995, including the Sarajevo Tunnel (the lifeline that kept the city supplied during the blockade), and Sniper Alley, where your guide explains the positions and the crossing routes people used. The tour ends at the 1984 Olympic Bobsleigh and Luge Track, where you get panoramic views of the entire city and hear the story of those Winter Games.
A private vehicle picks you up from your accommodation and carries you through all five stops. The pace is set by your guide's knowledge rather than a fixed schedule, so you can linger at sites that hold your attention. Water and coffee are provided. The entrance fee to the Tunnel of Hope Museum is covered.
