The experience
The day starts with a safety briefing and gear fitting, then you're clipped in and moving from platform to platform above the rainforest canopy. Seven zipline runs cross back and forth over the Caves Branch River, each one carrying you higher into views of limestone cliffs and the jungle spreading below. The guides stay with you the whole way, checking your setup and making sure you're moving at a pace that feels right.
After the ziplines, you hike into the forest toward the cave entrance. Your guide talks about the plants and animals you pass, then hands you a helmet and headlamp. You settle into an inflatable tube and push off into the cool river inside the cave system. For the next 1.5 hours, you drift through passages lit only by your headlamp, watching stalactites and stalagmites emerge from the darkness and mineral formations catch the light. The guide floats alongside, sharing stories about how the Maya once used these caves and what the formations mean.
The river carries you back out into the open jungle where you climb out and head back to the base. You'll have time to change and dry off before lunch at a local restaurant at the park. Private transportation picks you up from Hopkins and brings you back when the day is done.
