Harrison's Cave Caving Tour Barbados: Guided Spelunking Adventure
Crawl through Harrison's Cave on hands and knees with two guides leading the way
A 3.5-hour guided caving exploration through Harrison's Cave in Barbados where you walk, wade and crawl through underground passages with two expert guides, safety equipment and a 10-minute technique briefing before entry. The tour includes showers and a change area afterward, and requires sneakers, a change of clothes and a towel; minimum age is 13 and a high level of physical fitness is necessary.
The Experience
The tour starts with a 10-minute demonstration from your Spelunking Guide on the types of crawls and movements you'll need as you navigate Harrison's Cave. You'll watch the Discover Barbados Film and a historical video of the cave before heading out, then take the Adventure Stairs to become familiar with the terrain. A fitted helmet with headlamp, elbow pads, knee pads and gloves are provided — everything stays on throughout the exploration.
Once inside Harrison's Cave with your two guides, you enter on foot and learn about the cave's discovery and early explorations as you move through the passages. You'll see stalactites and stalagmites adorning the formations, then get acclimatized in the small pools of the Rotunda Room. The real exploration begins when you walk through Explorers' Pool in at least 4 feet of water, then crawl through the inner chambers on hands and knees. You'll get wet and muddy — that's the point — so bring a change of clothes, sneakers and a towel. Showers and a change area are available when you finish, and an air-conditioned vehicle returns you to your hotel.

What safety gear do I get for the cave crawling?
A fitted helmet with chinstrap and headlamp, elbow pads, knee pads and gloves are all provided. The helmet is mandatory and hairstyles may need to be pulled down or out to fit safely underneath.
How deep is the water I'll be walking through in Harrison's Cave?
Explorers' Pool is at least 4 feet deep, so you'll be wading through water up to your chest at points. You'll get wet and muddy throughout the exploration, which is why a change of clothes and towel are required.
What does the 10-minute demonstration cover before we enter?
The Spelunking Guide shows you the types of crawls and movements you'll need to do at various points inside Harrison's Cave, so you know what to expect before you start the underground exploration.
Do I need to be in good physical shape for this tour?
Yes — a high level of physical fitness is necessary. The tour involves crawling on hands and knees through inner chambers, wading through deep water and navigating tight passages, so you'll need stamina and strength throughout the 3.5 hours.
What should I wear and bring for Harrison's Cave?
Wear fully enclosed sneakers (no dresses or skirts), bring a change of clothes, a towel and shoes to change into afterward. Shirts with sleeves are recommended. No muddy or wet clothing is allowed on the shuttle back to your hotel, so the change of clothes is essential.
Is lunch or food included in this caving tour?
No lunch or beverages are included, but food and drinks can be purchased at the Bar & Grill onsite after the tour ends.
