The experience
The boat leaves Elizabeth on Bay and heads out across turquoise water toward Sun Cay, 8 nautical miles from Nassau Cruise Port. The 30-minute ride passes Atlantis, the Ocean Club, and waterfront homes that anchor the Nassau skyline. Once you arrive at the island, you get roughly 40 minutes in the water with the famous swimming pigs. The animals approach readily and will take snacks from your hands while you photograph them and watch them splash around you.
After the pig encounter, the day opens up. Sun Cay has three beaches, three bars, and a pool, and the island provides free paddle boards and kayaks, launch chairs, and umbrellas. You can swim, snorkel (for an extra fee), kayak, or simply lie in the sun. Lunch is served at the beach restaurant and includes BBQ chicken, fish fingers, rice and peas, and coleslaw. Drinks are available for purchase at the bars. The boat departs in time to return you to Nassau by late afternoon.
A live English-speaking guide is with the group throughout, and children from age 4 are welcome. The tour runs five hours total, though most of that is water time and beach time rather than structured activity. You set your own pace once the pig interaction ends.
