The Experience

The boat leaves the dock at Paradise Island and you've got 90 minutes of open water ahead of you. Most people spend that time on deck watching Eleuthera get closer, or inside where there's air conditioning and cold water. Either way, you're moving toward Meeks Patch Island, where the swimming pigs live. When you arrive, they're already in the water — not shy, not distant. You get about 45 minutes to swim with them, feed them, take photos that will actually look like you were there. The pigs are used to people but they're still pigs, so there's a realness to it that the Instagram version doesn't quite capture.

After Meeks Patch, the boat heads north along Eleuthera for 35 minutes to a shallow cove where wild sea turtles cruise through the water. You can touch them, feed them if the crew gives you the go-ahead. Thirty minutes sounds short until you're actually in the water watching a turtle glide past your face — then it feels like the right amount of time, not rushed. The boat ride back down to Harbour Island takes another 15 minutes, and that's when you dock and head straight to a local restaurant for lunch. They know you're coming, they've got your meal ready (you choose what you want before the tour starts), and it's a real break from the boat, not a quick snack.
