The experience

The Pink Lake opens the day: a mineral-rich body of water colored by natural algae, where you stop for a brief lakeside walk and photographs. From there the route heads north to Sumgait, Azerbaijan's third-largest city, where you walk the Sumgayit Boulevard, a newly rebuilt seafront promenade with views across the Caspian Sea, and then Ludwigshafen Park, a green space also called the German Park that marks a sister-city bond between Sumgait and a city in Germany.

The tour then moves to Five Finger Mountain, a sacred site shaped like a hand rising from the earth, where panoramic views open across the surrounding hills and sea. Next comes the Candy Cane Mountains, their red-and-white striped slopes a favorite stop for photographers.
