The experience

The tour starts at Highland Park, one of the highest points in the city, where the panorama spreads across Baku's skyline: the Maiden Tower, Flame Towers, Flag Square and the Caspian Sea all visible from one vantage. From there, the route moves through the city's defining landmarks: the trio of Flame Towers, which stand 182 meters tall and light up at night with 10,000 LED lights; Martyrs' Lane, a memorial cemetery honoring those killed during the Soviet crackdown in January 1990 and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict; and the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum, shaped like a rolled-up carpet and home to over 6,000 Azerbaijani carpets from the 17th to 20th centuries, where live weaving demonstrations show how the carpets are made.

The Baku Boulevard stretch takes in the Seaside National Park's 25-kilometer promenade, passing the Government House (built between 1936 and 1952), the National Flag Square with its 162-meter flagpole, and Little Venice: a park with islands connected by stone bridges where gondola rides are available. The Baku Ferris Wheel, also called the Baku Eye, is a 60-meter structure with 30 cabins that completes a full rotation in 30 to 40 minutes. The final stop is the Heydar Aliyev Center, designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid, known for its flowing curves and post-modern style. The building won the London Design Museum award in 2014.
