The experience
The tour opens at Highland Park, reached by funicular railway from Baku National Boulevard: the waterfront promenade planted with chestnuts, planes and palms that locals favor for an evening walk. From the park's highest point, you get a panorama of the city and the bay. The boulevard itself holds modern cafés, restaurants and fountains. An optional pleasure-boat voyage along Baku Bay lets you hear the guide's account of Caspian Sea history and legends from the water.
The rest of the day moves through Baku's landmarks. Flame Towers rise over the skyline; the Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum holds the country's textile heritage; the Heydar Aliyev Center displays its curved architecture; Little Venice offers a quieter neighborhood. The Old City, Icheri Sheher, closes the tour with the Shirvanshah Palace, Maiden Tower, Synyk Kala minaret, the Seyid Yahya Bakuvi mausoleum, caravanserais and 19th-century residences. Your guide travels with you in an air-conditioned vehicle and provides commentary throughout.
Museum entry fees are not included and must be paid separately at each site. Bottled water comes with the booking. The tour runs five hours and is private, so the pace and stops can be adjusted with your guide.
