Tandem paragliding in the Stubai Valley pairs you with a state-certified pilot for a single flight that includes the Elferlift ride to the take-off point, safety gear, and a landing-area chill lounge. No prior flying experience is required. The flight lasts roughly an hour from meeting point to landing, and you receive a tandem diploma and smartphone transfer of your photos at the flight school afterward.

The experience

You meet at the flight school and bring thin gloves, sturdy shoes, sunglasses, and a jacket suited to the season. The Elferlift carries you and your pilot up to the take-off point. Once there, your pilot fits you into the harness and helmet, both provided, and walks you through a short introduction. After a 10-meter run down the slope, you're airborne. The whole sequence from ground to air takes minutes.

The flight itself is the point. Your pilot positions you for comfort so you can watch the Stubai Valley unfold below: 3,000-meter peaks, ridges, and the valley floor all visible at once. There's no engine noise, no fixed route. Just the thermal currents your pilot reads and the view. When it's time to land, the pilot brings you down, helps you pack the paraglider, and walks back to the flight school with you.

At the flight school, you get a tandem paragliding certificate (which includes a €100 voucher toward future training if you want to learn solo) and your photos transferred to your phone. The chill lounge is there to decompress. Grab a drink, watch other paragliders land, and replay the flight in your head. Parafly has been running tandem flights here since 1986, and the pilots are state-certified. Aaron Durogati, a world champion, leads the operation.

After landing, you walk back to the flight school with your pilot. There, you receive your tandem diploma, and your photos are transferred directly to your smartphone. Photos and video can also be booked on-site for €30 if you want professional footage.

Is there a minimum fitness level or age requirement for tandem paragliding?

Tandem paragliding is suitable for all physical fitness levels. Infants and small children can participate if they ride in a pram or stroller. The activity is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with poor cardiovascular health.

Do I need paragliding experience to fly tandem?

No prior experience is needed. Your state-certified pilot handles all the flying. You simply enjoy the flight. The pilot gives you a brief introduction on the ground and manages the takeoff, flight, and landing.
