The experience

The tour starts with a pickup from your hotel at Ayers Rock Resort and a drive through the entry gate into Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Your guide leads two short walks: the Mala Walk takes you to Kantju Gorge, where you learn about the Mala People and their family roles within ceremonies, then the guide drives the full base of Uluru, pointing out the traditional sacred sites around the rock. Between these walks, you visit Mutitjulu Waterhole, a semi-permanent watercourse where you see rock art of the ancients and hear the Creation stories of Liru and Kuniya (the venomous snake and woma python), and how Uluru remains a teaching place for young Aboriginal people.

The group then travels to Talinguru Nyakunytjaku dune viewing area, a separate vantage point away from the main crowds. From here you watch the sun set over Uluru and the desert expanse as light changes across the rock. A glass of sparkling wine and light refreshments are served while you're at the dune, and the guide remains with the group throughout. After sunset, the drive back to your hotel completes the five-hour tour.
