The tour starts with pickup from your Ayers Rock Resort hotel and travel to Kata Tjuta. When you arrive, your guide leads you into Walpa Gorge, where the walk itself is a 2.6km return route between the massive domes. The ground is rocky and uneven, so you'll need at least moderate fitness, but the path is established and the guide sets the pace. Along the way, the guide explains how these 36 domes evolved over millions of years and what the rock formations reveal about the geology of the region.

The gorge walk also covers the flora and fauna that survive in this landscape, and the guide shares the spiritual significance of Kata Tjuta in Aboriginal culture. This is not a lecture—the guide speaks as you walk, stopping to point out details and answer questions. The whole tour takes about three hours, and you'll be back at your hotel roughly 30 minutes before dinner time if you have evening plans.

Groups stay under 15 people, which means you're not navigating the gorge in a crowd. The tour runs only from April through November; from December to March, the heat is too intense for the Walpa Gorge walk, so the operator does not run this itinerary during those months. National Park entry is separate and not included in the tour price.
