The experience
Tulloch Wines sits in the Hunter Valley, two hours from Sydney, and has been making wines for 125 years across four generations. The mystery tasting works like this: you receive six wines from their portfolio and a tasting mat with all the clues you need. Your job is to figure out what each one is. A dedicated wine professional stays with you throughout, answering questions and keeping you on track as you work through them at your own pace. The competitive streak or sense of adventure is what makes this one land. You're not just tasting. You're solving.
The tasting runs about an hour and includes a charcuterie board built from local producers: cheeses, salami, terrine, olives, hummus and crackers all arrive as you taste. You take home the wine experience booklet after, so the tasting notes and your guesses stay with you. If kids are coming, they get their own Junior Tasting with four soft drinks and four matching snacks (nut and gluten free). Teens aged 13–17 and any non-drinkers in your group receive a separate experience: a selection of Mailer McGuire specialty kombucha paired with a local cheese box, so nobody sits out.
The tasting room is wheelchair accessible, and all surfaces are level throughout. Infants under two sit on a lap or in a stroller at no extra charge. Service animals are welcome. The experience is only open to adults aged 18 and over, though children join as part of your group with their own age-appropriate tastings.
