Taste wines the way the winery built them to be shared—around a table, not standing at a bar.

Wine tasting at Raidis Estate cellar door in Penola seats you around a large table with friends to taste 6 estate wines—The Kelpie Sauvignon Blanc, The Kid Riesling, Cheeky Goat Pinot Gris, Red Project, Wild Goat Shiraz and Billy Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting fee is redeemable toward any wine purchase. The winery is family-friendly with games and a safe outdoor area for children, dog-friendly, and fully wheelchair accessible. A live guide in English leads the tasting; minimum age is 18.

The Experience

What makes Raidis different from a standard wine bar tasting? The setup itself. You sit around a large communal table instead of standing at a counter, which means the people you came with stay together and can actually talk while you taste. The winery built this on purpose—they believe wine is better when shared. The tasting runs through six wines: The Kelpie Sauvignon Blanc, The Kid Riesling, Cheeky Goat Pinot Gris, Red Project, Wild Goat Shiraz, and Billy Cabernet Sauvignon. You get tasting notes for each one and water to cleanse your palate between pours.

The cellar door itself is family-friendly, which changes the day if you're traveling with kids or a partner who doesn't drink. There's a safe outdoor area for children to run around while adults relax, free tea and coffee for non-drinkers, and food platters available. If you're bringing a dog, they're welcome too. The winery runs on 100% solar power and was the first in Australia to install Tesla charging. In winter, a small herd of goats that helps maintain the vineyard during the off-season may be around—worth asking about when you arrive.

The tasting fee you pay upfront applies directly toward any bottle you decide to buy, so it's not an extra cost if you find something you want to take home. The whole experience runs about an hour. Raidis hosts events with live music and food regularly, so check what's on during your visit—the atmosphere shifts depending on the day.
