You taste ten wines in one sitting, not a flight of three.

A self-guided wine tasting at Rymill Coonawarra in South Australia where you sample ten wines from the estate—Sparkling Brut through to Cabernet Sauvignon—with a cellar door host on hand to talk you through each one. The tasting runs 45 minutes in a seated group setting; a $10 per-person fee applies and is redeemable against any purchase. Produce platters are available to buy separately.

The Experience

You arrive at the cellar door and sit down for a tasting that moves through the full range: a 2018 Sparkling Brut opens the lineup, followed by a Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer, then a Rosé. The reds follow—a Merlot Cabernet blend, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, and two Cabernets, the mc² and the Classic. A staff member walks the table through the wines, talking about what makes each one, so you're learning as you taste rather than guessing.

The 45-minute window is fixed because of how the cellar door runs its seatings, but the staff aren't rushing you out the door. If you want to linger over a glass or talk more about a particular wine, that happens. Pre-prepared produce platters are there if you want something to eat alongside the tasting—those are a separate purchase, not included.

The tasting fee of $10 per person doesn't disappear: it's redeemable on anything you buy from the cellar, so if you taste something you want to take home, the fee comes off the bottle price. The winery sits on its own estate surrounded by vines, so there's a sense of being in the vineyard itself rather than in a tasting room in town.

What’s included

  • Ten wines sampled in a seated group tasting.
  • guidance from a cellar door host.
  • the $10 tasting fee redeemable on any purchase.

Is this one for you? This is a shared, seated tasting where a staff member leads you through the wines—choose it if you want to learn about Coonawarra from someone who knows the vineyard, and you're comfortable tasting in a group setting. If you prefer a private tasting or want to move at your own pace without a guide, this format won't suit you.

How long does the wine tasting take?

The seated tasting runs 45 minutes. That's the fixed window for each group, though the staff won't rush you if you want to ask questions or spend more time with a particular wine.

What's included in the tasting fee?
