Snorkel the Great Barrier Reef at Moore Reef and Milln or Flynn Reef with Indigenous Sea Rangers who demonstrate their traditional tools and share their connection to the ecosystem. The experience includes a marine biology presentation, all snorkel equipment with instruction, morning tea, buffet lunch and afternoon tea. Indigenous welcome, acknowledgement and Creation Story frame the full-day activity.

The experience

The journey to Moore Reef is where the cultural exchange begins. Indigenous Sea Rangers demonstrate the use of their traditional tools and instruments as you travel, setting the context for what you'll encounter underwater. Once at the first site, you have two hours to snorkel and explore the reef's underwater world. The Rangers' presence throughout the day means their knowledge of the ecosystem (how it functions, what lives there, why it matters) becomes part of how you see what's in front of you.

After Moore Reef, the boat moves to Milln or Flynn Reef for three more hours in the water. The snorkeling itself is unguided in the sense that you're not following a narrated route, but the Rangers are there, and the context they've already provided changes what you notice. All snorkel equipment comes with instruction, so if you're new to it, you're set up to be comfortable. Morning tea, buffet lunch and afternoon tea are included across the day, breaking up the time in the water and giving you space to process what you've seen.

This is the only Indigenous-led experience available at the Great Barrier Reef. The operator structures the day so that cultural knowledge and marine understanding run together, not as separate things, but as the Rangers' way of reading the reef. You can choose to add a certified or introductory scuba dive to the snorkeling if you want to go deeper.

How much time do I actually spend in the water snorkeling?

You have two hours at Moore Reef and three hours at Milln or Flynn Reef, for five hours of in-water snorkeling across the day. The boat journey, meals and cultural presentations take up the remaining time in the nine-hour experience.

Do I need to arrange my own transport to the boat?

Transport from Cairns and Northern Beaches accommodation is not included, so you'll need to arrange your own way to the departure point or book a separate transfer.
