Four hours total: boat ride out, 1.5 hours in the water, the ride back, and snacks on board

A half-day snorkeling trip from Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef with a maximum of 27 guests, English-speaking guide, and 1.5 hours exploring the reef. The tour departs from Cairns Marlin Marina on Finger B, includes snorkeling equipment and stinger suits in season, and keeps groups small enough that you're not jostling for space at the coral. Drinks are available for purchase on board; snacks are provided.

The Experience

You board one of the operator's fast vessels at Cairns Marlin Marina on Finger B and head out to the reef. The boat ride itself is part of the experience—these are custom-designed vessels built for speed, so the journey to the World Heritage site doesn't drag. Once you arrive, you have 1.5 hours in the water with a snorkel guide who knows the reef and can point out what you're looking at. The group caps at 27 people, which means you're not fighting for elbow room or waiting for someone else to move so you can see the coral.

Snorkeling equipment is included—mask, fins, snorkel—along with stinger suits during the season when they're needed. If you wear prescription glasses, you can hire a prescription mask at checkout. The guide is English-speaking and will be in the water with you. Snacks come on board; if you want drinks beyond water, those are available for purchase.

The whole outing runs about four hours from start to finish. Snorkeling is physically demanding, so the operator notes you should have at least moderate fitness and be a comfortable swimmer. Children from age 6 are welcome. Public transport options are available near the marina if you're not driving yourself.

What’s included

  • English-speaking snorkel guide.
