Farm to Bottle Rum Tour at Husk Farm Distillery: Harvest & Taste
You harvest the cane, crush it, taste the juice, and follow it all the way to the barrel house.
This 90-minute on-farm activity at Husk Farm Distillery in New South Wales puts you to work harvesting and crushing sugarcane, then traces the journey from field to bottle as rum. You start with a white rum cocktail overlooking the paddocks, move into the fields to learn the harvest, taste fresh cane juice, feed the stalks to the farm's cattle, walk through the still house to see fermentation and distillation, and finish with a guided tasting of aged Husk Rum expressions in the barrel house. Two cocktails and rum samples are included. A live guide leads in English.

The experience
The experience opens with a rum cocktail in hand while you stand in the paddock, then moves straight into the work: learning to harvest and crush sugarcane the way the farm does it. You taste the fresh juice as it comes from the cane, or add a shot of rum to it if you want. The cane tops go to the farm's cattle, which handle the sustainability side of the operation. This is not a passive walk-through. You are doing the labor that starts the whole chain.
From there you follow the sugarcane into the still house to see how the juice ferments and becomes rum, then move through to the barrel house where a guide walks you through a flight of Husk's aged expressions. The whole arc, field to bottle, takes about 90 minutes, and the guide explains the processes at each stop. You leave with a clear picture of how a single-estate rum actually gets made, from the soil up.
