The Experience

The tour starts with pickup from your hotel or inside the harbor in Ushuaia, then heads south on Route N°3 toward the park. Your first stop is the End of the World Train Station if you want to buy a ticket for one of the departures (9:30, 12:00 or 15:00), though the train is optional. From there you move to the southernmost post office at Ensenada Zaratiegui, where you can mail postcards and take a short walk along the coast for about 20 minutes among rocky formations where the forest meets the sea.

The route then takes you to Lake Roca—Errazuriz, where the Alakush Visitor Center sits. Here the guide walks you through the park's fauna, flora and human history: the Yámanas people who lived on the island for centuries, the first European pioneers, and the 300-year-old lenga and guindo trees that line the water. The lake's views stretch toward the Chilean border. From there you continue to Bahía Lapataia, the southern terminus of the Panamerican route, with short hikes possible along the way depending on what you want to do. After 4 hours in the park, the driver returns you to the harbor or hotel in time for your ship.
