The experience
The tour starts at the Visitors' Center, where your guide orients you to the park before the 11 km drive into the forest. On the road itself you hear the falls before you see them, moving through dense vegetation where coatis, birds and butterflies live among the trees. The Brazilian side holds only a quarter of the water, but the geography gives you a frontal view of the cascades rather than a side view, and from the walkway you count around 275 individual falls dropping from the Iguaçu River.
The 950-meter circuit brings you closest to the colossal Devil's Throat, the single cascade with the largest water flow in the system. Depending on the light and weather, rainbows appear across the mist. After the walkway, a panoramic elevator lifts you to a second angle on the same falls and the Argentinian side beyond, which holds the remaining 75% of the system. The ride down leaves you at Porto Canoas, where you can buy food and drinks before returning to your hotel.
