The experience
What makes this tour different is the size: keeping the group small means you're not herded through stops or fighting for a photo. You'll travel by van through the island with a guide who knows the place, stopping first at St. John's Anglican Cathedral, one of the oldest religious buildings in the capital. It's undergoing restoration, but you can still walk inside, sit in the pews and take a moment. From there the route follows Fig Tree Drive, a scenic stretch through the green southern side of Antigua that shows the island has more than sand and sea.
The day includes a walk or drive through St. John's itself, where the meat, fish and vegetable markets give you a real look at how locals shop and eat. You'll stop at Ffryes Beach, one of Antigua's 365 white sand beaches, for time to swim or just sit in the calm water. The Donkey Sanctuary comes next: a shelter where rescued donkeys and homeless cats and dogs get fed and cared for, and the animals are used to being brushed and handled. The final stop is Devil's Bridge National Park, a limestone formation carved by the Atlantic Ocean. During slavery it earned its dark name from the lives lost there, but today it's a natural landmark visitors come to photograph.
Pickup is included, and the van is air-conditioned. You'll get bottled water throughout the day and seasonal fruits: what's available when you go. Lunch is part of the itinerary. Vegetarian options are available if you let the operator know when you book. The guide speaks English or Spanish, so let them know which language works for your group.
