Our guide, Ardit, waved us over with this easy smile and started right away talking about how his grandfather used to stomp grapes here before communism. I could smell grass and something sweet in the air—maybe wildflowers? The vineyard itself felt almost too green for early spring, but Ardit said it’s always like this after rain.
I’ll admit, I was mostly there for the wine tasting (main keyword, check), but I didn’t expect to get so into the cellar tour. The barrels were cool to touch and smelled like old wood and berries. We tried three wines—Merlot, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon—and I tried to guess which was which before he told us. Not even close. Then came the raki. It burned a little going down but left this warm feeling in my chest. Ardit laughed when I coughed—he said everyone does their first time.
The boat ride on the private lake was quieter than I thought it’d be. Just our small group and some ducks skimming by. You could hear someone chopping vegetables back at the kitchen—a soft thunk-thunk drifting over water. We had local snacks: cheese that squeaked between my teeth and these salty olives that tasted way better than anything from a jar back home. Sitting there with wine in hand, sun on my face, I just felt… lighter? Hard to explain.
I still think about that view across the water—how the vines looked almost gold in late afternoon light. If you’re looking for a day trip from Durres or Tirana that doesn’t feel rushed, this is it. Includes pickup too, so you don’t have to worry about driving after all that wine.
