The experience

How do you see Berat's castle, its museums and its three historic neighborhoods without arranging your own transport? This tour picks you up from your Tirana or Durrës hotel and handles the drive, the entries and the pacing across eight hours. The day starts at the castle walls, where you climb to views over the Old Town and see the Church of the Dormition of St Mary, the Red Mosque and St. Trinity Church inside the fortress.

Two museum entries are included: the Onufri Museum, dedicated to Byzantine art and iconography, and the Ethnographic Museum, housed in an 18th-century traditional Berat house with period Ottoman details. Open cupboards, niches, fireplaces and a well built into the walls. Between the museums you explore the neighborhoods of Gorica, Mangalemi and Kala on foot. Lunch is a traditional Albanian meal with your choice of beverage, eaten partway through the day.

The tour ends with free time at the Gorica Bridge, built in 1780, where the river crossing offers the view of the Old Town that appears on postcards across Albania. Bottled water, soft drinks and an air-conditioned vehicle are included throughout. Hotel drop-off closes the day.
