The Experience

The day starts with pickup from your Tirana hotel and a drive to Durrës, Albania's main port city on the Adriatic coast. You'll visit the Durrës Amphitheater, one of the largest in the Balkans and a relic of Roman times, then walk the Venetian Tower and the remnants of the old city walls that shaped the city's defenses. A stroll along the seafront gives you coastal views and a chance to sit at a seaside café before continuing inland to Berat.

Berat, known as the "City of a Thousand Windows," sits inside its own castle—a fortress standing since the 4th century BC and still inhabited by families living in traditional white-washed Ottoman houses. You'll walk the cobblestone streets lined with cafés and artisan shops, then visit the King Mosque, built in the 15th century by Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II, and the Halveti Tekke, a 1782 sacred site with an intricately carved ceiling that marks it as a Cultural Monument. The Osumi River runs through the old quarters of Mangalem and Gorica, connected by the Gorica Bridge, a stone structure originally built in 1780. A traditional lunch with homemade specialties and local wine is part of the experience here.

After Berat, the route takes you through rolling hills to Belsh Lake, where you'll have roughly 30 minutes to rest, take in the views of the water and surrounding greenery, and photograph the landscape. The drive back to Tirana takes about 90 minutes, ending your day at your hotel.
