The Experience
Your guide and driver pick you up at your Da Nang or Hoi An hotel at 8 a.m. and drive about an hour to My Son Sanctuary. On the way you hear the history of the Champa Kingdom from someone who knows it—the guide explains how the Cham people built the temples without using mortar, and why the site mattered as a religious center for nearly nine centuries. You spend about two hours walking the 70 architectural works that make up the sanctuary, and you also watch an Apsara dance performance.
Around 11:45 a.m. you stop for lunch—Vietnamese authentic food with cold beer or soft drinks included. After lunch, before heading to Marble Mountains, you spend about 10 minutes at a local marble sculpture village watching artisans carve. Then the guide takes you up Water Mountain by elevator. Marble Mountains is a cluster of five limestone peaks named after the five elements of the universe—Water, Metal, Fire, Wood, Earth—and they sit close to the sea. You explore caves, caverns and pagodas, climb stairs to two viewing points, and see Buddhist sanctuaries and Hindu grottoes that are still active places of worship for locals. The guide helps you frame shots for photos and explains what you're looking at. By 4 p.m. you're back at your hotel.
The tour runs in an air-conditioned luxury SUV or minivan with an experienced driver. Bottled water and towels are provided. All areas at both sites are wheelchair accessible, and the elevator at Marble Mountains means you don't have to climb to reach the views.

Is this one for you?The seven- to eight-hour commitment means you can fit both sites into a single day without splitting the experience, but it leaves little room for other activities—book this when you want to spend a full day on these two sites and nothing else. If you have only a few hours free, or want to combine these with a third destination, a different itinerary would work better.
