The Experience

The day starts with pickup at your hotel in District 1 and a drive to Ben Luc in the Mekong Delta. Once there, you cycle through the countryside on flat routes, passing orchards and rice fields, stopping at a family farm to explore the village and see dragon fruit and other tropical crops. The kayaking comes next: you paddle a kayak through a maze of narrow canals for about an hour, moving at your own pace through the waterways locals use every day.

By late morning you're back at the farm for a hands-on Vietnamese cooking class. You prepare a meal using local ingredients, then sit down to eat what you've made. After lunch, the group visits Vinh Trang Pagoda, the largest ancient temple in the Mekong Delta, before boarding a boat for a cruise on the Tien River. This is where the pace shifts: you drift past the daily life of local people, listen to traditional Southern Vietnamese folk music (Đàn Ca Tài Tử, a UNESCO-recognized art form), and take a separate hand-rowed sampan ride through smaller canals. A stop at a bee farm for honey tea and a visit to the coconut-growing region round out the afternoon before the bus returns you to Ho Chi Minh City around 5:30 PM.

The guide speaks English and stays with you the whole day. Helmets and life jackets are included, and the cycling and paddling routes are designed for all fitness levels—no experience needed. If you have dietary restrictions, the farm can adjust the cooking class and lunch to suit them.
