The Experience

Someone hands me a cold towel before I even realize I’m sweating — that thick, salty air hits as soon as we step onto the tender at Tuan Chau Marina. Our guide, Minh, is already grinning and waving us over. He jokes about the “VIP treatment” and it’s only half a joke; by the time we reach the Azura Cruise ship floating out on Lan Ha Bay, I feel like I’ve left regular life behind. The water’s this odd green-blue shade that looks fake in photos but isn’t. Lunch comes with ginger-scented fish and something crispy I can’t pronounce (Li laughed when I tried to say it in Mandarin — probably butchered it). I didn’t expect to actually swim in a floating pool on a bay like this — but there we were, bobbing around Ao Ech Lagoon with life vests on, pretending not to notice how silly we looked.
