The experience

The royal tombs are the draw for most travelers. Tu Duc's tomb, built from 1864 to 1867, sprawls across 12 hectares and includes both a temple and a burial area where the king lived and worked. Minh Mang's tomb, started by the king himself and finished by his son, covers a hectare with separate quarters for his wives and concubines. Khai Dinh's tomb stands apart. It blends Oriental and European styles and is the only one where the king's burial place is known and marked. Thien Mu Pagoda, built in 1601 on a hill overlooking the Perfume River, is the oldest and most famous pagoda in Hue. Entry to the pagoda is free. Tomb entry fees are separate.

The itinerary is yours to shape. You can add stops at the Thuy Tien Abandoned Water Park, Thuy Xuan Incense Village (famous for centuries of traditional incense making), the Vinh Moc Tunnels from the Vietnam War, or extend the trip toward Phong Nha, Hoi An or Da Nang.
