The Experience
The Hai Van Pass is the highest mountain pass in Vietnam, rising 500 meters and stretching 21 kilometers between Hue and Da Nang with winding curves that made it famous on the Top Gear Vietnam Special. You spend roughly two hours on the pass itself, stopping every 5–10 minutes at viewpoints and photo spots, with time to rest over coffee while the mountains and sea spread below. At the top sits Hai Van Quan, a fort built in 1826, surrounded by old French and American bunkers — the views from here frame the entire coastal range.
The route threads through quieter stops that break up the riding: Lap An Lagoon near Lang Co Beach, where traditional fishermen work nets in calm water and local oyster farming happens in plain sight; Suoi Mo Waterfall, a natural pool in the mountains where you can swim in fresh water surrounded by forest and rock; and Lang Co Beach itself, a long stretch of golden sand between mountains and lagoon, where lunch arrives freshly prepared with vegetarian and pescatarian options. Each stop is chosen to let you step off the bike and absorb the landscape at a different pace.
Son Tra Peninsula — also called Monkey Mountain — is where the day shifts from mountain passes to coastal cliffs. The road winds along the mountainside with several panoramic stops where you can watch for the rare red-shanked douc langur monkeys in their habitat. Late afternoon often brings a viewpoint stop to catch the sunset over Da Nang Bay, the city lights spreading across the water below. The final stop is the Dragon Bridge, a 666-meter golden landmark lit with colored lights, where you pause before heading back to your hotel.

Is this one for you?Choose the Easy Rider option if you want to focus on the road and the views without managing the bike yourself, or pick self-riding if you have motorbike experience and want to control the pace through the curves. The one-way route works best if you're moving between cities; the loop suits travelers based in Da Nang or Hoi An for a single day.

What's the difference between riding my own motorbike and riding with a guide?
The Easy Rider option puts you on the back of a motorbike with an English-speaking guide who handles the road and stops; self-riding means you operate your own bike and pay an additional US$16 to cover the motorbike and fuel. Both routes visit the same sites and include hotel pickup and drop-off.
How much time do you actually spend riding versus stopping?
The full day runs eight hours total. You spend roughly two hours on the Hai Van Pass alone, with frequent short stops for photos and viewpoints. The rest of the day splits between riding the coastal roads of Son Tra Peninsula, swimming at Suoi Mo Waterfall, lunch at Lang Co Beach, and photo stops at Linh Ung Pagoda and the Dragon Bridge.
Is lunch included, and can you handle dietary preferences?
Lunch is not included in the tour price, but it's served at Lang Co Beach with fresh local options. Vegetarian, vegan, and pescatarian meals are available — let the operator know your preference when you book.
What happens if I want to do a one-way trip instead of a loop?
The tour runs as either a one-way journey (Hue to Da Nang to Hoi An) or a loop starting and ending in Da Nang or Hoi An. One-way trips include luggage transfer to your final hotel; loop tours do not.
Can you see the Dragon Bridge fire show on this tour?
The Dragon Bridge fire and water show runs from its mouth at 8:00 PM on weekends. The tour stops at the bridge for photos and views of the city center, though the timing of your return depends on your start time and chosen route.
What's included in the tour price?
Hotel pickup and drop-off, a helmet and rain poncho, private motorbike transportation with an English-speaking guide (or self-riding), and entrance fees to all listed sites — Hai Van Pass, Linh Ung Pagoda, and Son Tra Peninsula viewpoints — are included. Lunch is separate.
