You spend two nights traveling from Hanoi — one aboard a small cruise ship in Lan Ha Bay with kayaking, swimming and a cooking class, the second in a Ninh Binh bungalow. Day three takes you through ancient temples, up a cave peak and by boat through a limestone landscape. All entrance fees, meals, guide and transport are included; you arrange only your arrival in Hanoi and your departure afterward.
Three days means you leave Hanoi on the morning of day one and return by evening on day three. Pickup starts around 7:45 AM from the Old Quarter; the drive to Haiphong port takes roughly three hours. By 11:30 AM you're aboard Ha Long Venezia, a steel-hulled cruise with only 10 cabins and a maximum of 23 passengers — small enough that you recognize faces at dinner. The ship carries you through Lan Ha Bay, a quieter corner of the Halong World Heritage site where limestone karsts rise straight from the water and the tourist crowds thin out.
Your first afternoon unfolds on the water. After lunch onboard, a tender takes you to kayak from Coc Ngoi islet toward Dark and Bright Cave, paddling between rock formations that narrow and open without warning. The water stays clear enough to see the bottom. You can swim from the kayak or climb back aboard and watch the sunset from the sun deck while the crew sets up Happy Hour. In the evening, the ship's chef leads a cooking class — you make Vietnamese spring rolls with your hands, then eat them at dinner with the rest of the meal the galley has prepared. You sleep in your cabin that night with the bay outside your window.
Day two starts with sunrise from the sun deck or your cabin, then breakfast while the ship motors back toward Cat Ba Island. A tender takes you to Viet Hai Village, where you can bike or take an electric car through a rainforest tunnel into a valley. You meet locals in their homes, see the village school, watch people doing daily work — no performance, just the place as it is. Lunch happens back on the ship as you cruise toward the southern quay. By afternoon you're in a van heading to Ninh Binh, where you sleep in a bungalow.
Day three is the full-day Ninh Binh tour. Your guide picks you up around 8 AM and takes you to Bich Dong, the oldest pagoda in the region, then to Mua Cave — 500 steps up a limestone peak that opens onto views of Hoa Lu, the ancient royal capital. You visit the 10th-century temples of two kings who fought off Chinese invasions. Then comes Trang An, where a small boat carries you through a cave complex (Sang, Toi, Ba Giot, Nau Ruou) past rice paddies, streams and green fields. The boat trip is the Ninh Binh version of Halong — same limestone drama, narrower scale, no cruise ships. You return to Hanoi by evening or stay in Ninh Binh if your schedule allows.
