Hanoi Jeep Tour: Train Street, Hidden Gems & Hoan Kiem Lake
Long Bien Bridge and the train that runs through a narrow Hanoi street, from a Jeep built for the People's Army.
A 2-hour Jeep tour through Hanoi in a Vietnam People's Army vehicle, led by an English-speaking guide who takes you past Long Bien Bridge, Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter to Train Street and hidden local spots. Pickup from your hotel or a meeting point in Hoan Kiem is included; the tour stops for egg coffee at a café made from recycled materials and includes water, rain ponchos and all entrance fees.

The Experience
The Jeep picks you up from your hotel in the Old Quarter or from Hidden Gem Coffee on Hang Tre Street, 15 minutes before departure. From there, the route moves through Hanoi's mix of landmarks and streets most visitors miss—the guide knows the timing and the location of Train Street, where you'll sit at a café and watch the train pass through the narrow street at ground level. This is the stop people come for, and the guide gets you there at the right moment.
You'll spend about 20 minutes at Long Bien Bridge taking in the views over the Red River and the city skyline. The bridge is an engineering landmark with French colonial design, and the guide points out the activity on the water below and the architecture itself. From there, the Jeep passes Hoan Kiem Lake and moves through the Old Quarter's lively streets—the route itself is the experience, not a series of stops where you step out and wait.
The tour ends at a café in the Old Quarter where you taste Hanoi egg coffee—a local specialty—while sitting among furniture and art made from discarded materials. The whole space is a working recycling project, not a tourist setup. Coffee, drinking water and local beverages are included; so are rain ponchos, entrance fees and the driver's fuel. The Jeep is a Vietnam People's Army vehicle, which is the reason the tour exists—it's not a standard minibus, and the vehicle itself is part of what you're riding in.

What is Train Street in Hanoi and why do people go there?
Train Street is a narrow street in the Old Quarter where an active railway line runs between buildings at ground level. The tour times your arrival so you can sit at a café and watch the train pass through the tight space—it's a daily occurrence that draws visitors because the train moves through residential areas and the street is only wide enough for the tracks and a narrow path on either side.
Will I go inside Hoan Kiem Lake or the other attractions?
The Hanoi Jeep Tour does not enter the paid attractions. Instead, you ride past Hoan Kiem Lake and through the Old Quarter from the Jeep, and the guide takes you to hidden spots and less-visited areas that show the city beyond the main tourist sites. The focus is on the route and the neighborhoods, not on walking through museums or monuments.
What is included in the tour price?
The tour includes the English-speaking guide and driver, the Jeep and fuel, coffee and drinking water, local beverages, rain ponchos, and all entrance fees. Pickup from your hotel in the Old Quarter or from the meeting point on Hang Tre Street is included; tips and gratuities for the guide and driver are optional.
How long is the tour and what time does it start?
The tour runs 2 to 2.5 hours total, including travel time and all stops. Pickup happens 15 minutes before the tour start time, so you'll need to be ready at your hotel or at the meeting point at Hidden Gem Coffee on Hang Tre Street in Hoan Kiem.
What is the Vietnam People's Army Jeep, and why does it matter?
The tour uses a Vietnam People's Army Jeep-Uaz469, a legendary military vehicle that is part of the experience itself. It's not a standard tour bus or minivan—the Jeep is smaller, more nimble through Hanoi's narrow streets, and carries the history of the vehicle into the ride.
Is this tour suitable for everyone?
The tour requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness because you'll be getting in and out of the Jeep and moving between stops. It is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with poor cardiovascular health. Infants must sit on an adult's lap. Public transportation options are available nearby if you need an alternative.
