The experience
The trek starts with a 6am pickup from your Sapa hotel and a drive to Tram Ton Pass, the trailhead at 1,800m inside Hoang Lien National Park. From there you trek upward through bamboo forest toward the peak. A porter carries supplies and a guide leads the way. You stop for a picnic lunch about halfway through the climb. The ascent takes roughly five hours of walking to reach the summit by noon or early afternoon.
At the Fansipan summit you get an hour to rest, eat a light meal and take photos. The descent begins in the afternoon: you can trek back down the same route, or buy a cable car ticket (paid separately) to ride down instead. Either way, a car picks you up around 4:30pm to return you to Sapa town center, ending the day by late afternoon. You receive a summiting certificate and a bottle of water per person for the trek.
The trek suits anyone with moderate fitness who can handle a steep, full-day climb. The operator does not recommend it for travelers with spinal injuries, pregnant travelers, or those with cardiovascular concerns. Minimum age is 12.

Is this one for you?The trek is shared with other travelers and requires you to walk the full ascent and descent (or pay extra for the cable car down). Choose this if you want the challenge of summiting on foot with professional support and a porter to lighten the load, rather than a cable car ride up.
