The experience
Da Lat spreads across a highland plateau, and this tour uses a private car to move between the scattered sites rather than walking the city itself. The Cable Car Station sits above the pine forest. From the cabin you see the Central Highlands mountains and the cool air that makes Da Lat feel different from the lowlands. Truc Lam Zen Monastery, built in 1994 on Phung Hoang mountain above Tuyen Lam Lake, is the largest in Lam Dong province and draws both tourists and people who come to meditate. The lake itself spreads over 400 hectares, and the itinerary includes time to walk up to the Pinhet Mountains for photos if you want them.
The two waterfalls anchor the day. Datanla waterfall is a 10-minute walk down through rocks to the base, where you sit for about an hour. Pongour Falls, the biggest waterfall in southern Vietnam, gets a similar walk and an hour on-site. After Pongour, the tour moves to K'Hor village, where an indigenous ethnic minority group still lives. You see how they make their living and understand the daily rhythms of the plateau. Then come the coffee plantations and pepper fields. You walk through them and drink real coffee from the Central Highlands, looking out at the mountains.
The driver speaks English and shapes the route to what interests you before you start. Pickup is included, and all waterfall entrance tickets are covered in the price. The cable car ride costs extra if you want to go up, as do the roller coaster and zipline at Datanla if those appeal to you. Bring your own water and plan to buy lunch on the road or in the villages.
Is this one for you?Book this if you're traveling solo or with one other person and want a private car with driver to move between Da Lat's highlights at your own pace, rather than joining a group tour.
