The Experience

The day started with me forgetting my rain jacket (classic), so I ended up borrowing a thin poncho from our guide, Hien. She just laughed and said Dalat’s weather changes its mind every hour anyway. Our first stop was the waterfall — not just any walk-up-and-look spot, but this wild little roller coaster that zipped us down through pine trees. I could smell the wet bark as we curved around the bends. At the bottom, the sound of Datanla Falls was louder than I expected, almost like it was shouting over all the mist. We took a few awkward selfies — Hien insisted on getting everyone in — and then zipped back up on the coaster instead of hiking (my knees thanked me).

After that rush, things slowed down. The cable car up to Robin Hill gave us these wide-open views of Dalat city tucked between hills, all low clouds and red roofs. It felt colder up there — or maybe it was just the wind sneaking into my borrowed poncho. At Truc Lam Zen Monastery, Hien showed us how to bow properly before entering; I tried but probably looked confused. There was this quietness inside, broken only by birds and someone chanting somewhere far off. Looking out over Tuyen Lam Lake from there — blue water edged with dark green pines — I realized why people call this place peaceful (even if my stomach was still flipping from the roller coaster).

I didn’t expect to be so taken by Van Thanh Flower Village. Rows of roses and lilies under glass, farmers checking leaves or joking with each other in Vietnamese — it smelled faintly sweet and earthy at the same time. Hien picked a tiny strawberry for us to try (so much juicier than supermarket ones back home). We wandered through Bao Dai’s old palace too; everything felt stuck in time, right down to creaky wooden floors and faded yellow walls.

If you’re lucky with timing (we were), you end up at some coffee shop overlooking valleys just as the afternoon fog rolls in. My hands were cold around the cup but it tasted strong and nutty — honestly, I still think about that view sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic back home.

What’s included

Your day includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Dalat city center, all entrance fees at each site (including Bao Dai’s Palace and Crazy House), an English-speaking local guide who shares stories along every stop, bottled mineral water throughout the journey plus round-trip rides on both the alpine roller coaster at Datanla Falls and Robin Hill cable car—so you won’t need to worry about extra tickets or transport logistics at all.
