The experience

The tour starts with pickup from your Central District 1 hotel at either 8:00 am or 12:30 pm, then heads out through the countryside toward the tunnels about 90 minutes away. On arrival, a guide walks you through the site's role in Vietnam's history and the conditions soldiers faced during the war. You'll watch a short documentary about Cu Chi during wartime, then move through the physical remains: the booby traps that defended the tunnels, and a short crawl through one of the passages themselves. The tunnels are famously narrow, built to fit only Vietnamese soldiers, so this is not a long underground walk but a genuine sense of the space and its constraints.

The tunnels contained far more than just hiding places. Hospitals, schools, theatres, and kitchens were all carved into the network, and the entrances were concealed with wooden doors and camouflage leaves. You'll taste tapioca, the typical wartime dish, and drink pandan leaves tea as part of the tour.
