The experience

The day starts before dawn with breakfast in Cao Bang city (rice paper, duck noodle soup, sour noodle), then heads into the Global Geopark on a road that follows a stream through jungle. You'll pass old stilt houses and stop for local cakes and water as the scenery opens into what the operator calls a fairyland. The guide points out Keo Yen Panorama and Lung Luong Ammonites as you climb toward Magic Eye Mountain, the highest viewpoint in the park.

The core of the tour runs through villages where few trucks pass, letting you see how Tày, Nung, Dao and H.Mong people live without the noise of main roads. Lunch happens at a homestay near Pac Bo Cave, where you eat local fish from the stream and mountain vegetables. Pac Bo Cave itself is where Ho Chi Minh stepped onto Vietnamese soil in 1941 after 30 years abroad. You also visit Lenin Stream and Karl Marx Mountain nearby, then Kim Dong's Tomb: a memorial to a teenage resistance fighter who died at 14. The return to Cao Bang takes a different route, so you see new landscape rather than retracing the morning's road. Dinner is at a local restaurant in the city.
