The experience

The jeep picks you up at your Mui Ne hotel and heads first to the Fairy Stream, where you walk barefoot for about an hour through a valley with different colored sand and clear water: a spot for spotting native birds and wildlife. From there the route moves to a traditional fishing village to watch the daily rhythm of coastal life, then on to the White Sand Dunes, the main stop. You can walk and photograph the dunes or pay an extra charge on the spot to ride an ATV across them. The operator does not set a fixed price for the ATV. You negotiate it with the local operator when you arrive.

The tour continues to the Red Sand Dunes, where the driver stops for photos along the beach road. Local vendors rent sandboards here for around 50,000 Vietnamese dong per board if you want to slide down. You watch the sunset from the Red Sand Dunes before the driver returns you to your hotel. The whole outing runs about five hours. All entrance fees are covered, and the guide speaks English.

Two departure times are available: morning or sunset. The morning tour lets you start early and move through all four stops in daylight. The sunset tour times the final stop to catch the light at the Red Sand Dunes. Water is provided throughout, and the jeep is comfortable for the sandy terrain.
