The experience

The tour starts with hotel pickup in Mui Ne Center or Ham Tien Ward, then heads to Fairy Stream for about an hour of walking barefoot along the water while spotting local birds and wildlife among the different colored sand. From there you move to a traditional fishing village to see the pace of local life, then spend an hour at the White Sand Dunes: the point where the itinerary splits. Most travelers either ride an ATV across the dunes or take a relaxing walk. The ATV option costs extra and you pay on the spot. Either way, you get time to take in the scenery before heading to the Red Sand Dunes.

At the Red Sand Dunes, the jeep stops along the beach road for photos, and you watch the sunset before the driver takes you back to your hotel. Sandboarding is available here too for a local fee if you want to try it. The whole experience runs about five hours from pickup to drop-off, and the guide speaks English throughout. Water is provided, and all entrance fees are covered in the price.
