Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Samarkand's historic landmarks

  • Visit Gur Emir Mausoleum
  • Explore Registan Square
  • Tour Bibi-Khanym Mosque
  • Walk through Siab Bazaar
  • Discover Shakhi Zinda Necropolis
  • Return to hotel or meeting point

The Experience

You start from your hotel or a meeting point and travel by air-conditioned vehicle to the Gur Emir Mausoleum, a 15th-century complex that began as a center for Islamic education before becoming the burial place of Amir Timur and his descendants. The ribbed dome is covered in mosaic, and the interior holds ornate decorations that later inspired Mughal architecture in India. From there, the tour moves to Registan Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site surrounded by three grand madrassahs, each with its own design and history. This was once the heart of trade and gathering on the Silk Road.

The afternoon takes you to Shah-i-Zinda Necropolis, a complex of blue-tiled tombs built between the 14th and 15th centuries near the Bibi-Khanym Mosque. The mosque itself is massive—Amir Timur built it in five years with hundreds of workers, aiming to create the largest mosque in the East. Despite structural problems that began shortly after completion, it remains a symbol of his ambition. You then walk through Siab Bazaar, which spans five hectares and has operated since the Silk Road era. Rows of tents display fruits, vegetables, spices and local handicrafts, and bargaining is part of the tradition here.

The tour ends with a return to your hotel or the meeting point. All fees and taxes are included, and the vehicle is wheelchair accessible. The guide is with you throughout, and the pace suits all fitness levels.
