The Experience
The tour runs five to six hours and moves through Samarkand's core in sequence: you start at the Amir Timur statue, then move to the Gur-e-Emir Mausoleum, where the guide explains the distinctive azure dome and geometric patterns of Timurid architecture. From there the route takes you to the Registan—the most famous square in the city—where three madrassas face each other: the Ulugbek, Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kori, each built in the 15th and 17th centuries with their own character. The Sher-Dor is known for tiger mosaics unusual in Islamic design; the Tilla-Kori gets its name from gold decoration that covers the interior.
You also visit the Bibi-Khanym Mosque, a 15th-century structure that reflects the scale and ambition of the Timurid Empire, and the Shakhi Zinda necropolis, a vertical street of mausoleums that blend history and spirituality. The Siyob Bazaar gives you time in a working market where locals buy spices, produce and crafts—not a tourist version. Near the bazaar sits the Hazrat Khizr Mosque on a hill with views across the city, and the Islam Karimov Mausoleum next to it. A professional guide in English or Russian leads the whole route and handles the explanations at each stop; you can adjust the itinerary to fit your schedule.
Entrance fees to the monuments are paid separately unless you book the all-inclusive option. The small-group version keeps numbers low; private tours let you set the pace. Lunch is included only in the all-inclusive package, though the tour passes through the bazaar where you can buy food. Taste dried fruits at a point during the day. Photo stops are built in at the best spots—the guide knows where the light and the angles work.

What's inside the Registan and why is it the most famous square in Samarkand?
The Registan holds three madrassas—the Ulugbek, Sher-Dor and Tilla-Kori—built between the 15th and 17th centuries facing each other across a plaza. The name means "Sandy Place" in Persian, from its past as a central trading and gathering spot.
Do I need to pay for entrance to the monuments separately?
Entrance fees are paid separately on the standard tour options. If you book the all-inclusive private tour package, entrance tickets to all the monuments are included in the price.
Is lunch provided during the tour?
Lunch is included only in the all-inclusive private tour option. On other options, the tour passes through the Siyob Bazaar where you can buy food, and you can arrange a meal break during the day.
Can I customize which sites we visit?
Yes—the itinerary is customizable according to your schedule. The tour covers twelve major sites by default, but you can adjust which ones you prioritize with your guide.
What language does the guide speak?
The guide is a professional local who speaks English or Russian, depending on which option you select at checkout.
How long does the tour take?
The tour runs five to six hours and covers the major monuments, bazaar and neighborhoods of central Samarkand in sequence.
