The experience
You meet your guide half an hour before sunrise and decide together how the day will unfold, whether you want to focus on composition and framing, dial in your camera settings, or work on advanced techniques. The workshop is built around your goals, not a fixed script. If you're new to manual mode or you've been shooting for years, the instruction adjusts. You'll spend three to four hours in the morning session visiting locations chosen for their light at that hour, then return in the afternoon for another three to four hours that culminates in sunset photography. You can do both sessions or pick just the morning or just the evening, depending on what fits your schedule and what you want to shoot.
The locations themselves are hand-picked by your guide, not the overlooks where tour buses park, but spots that open up different angles and let you photograph Yosemite's landscapes with fewer people in the frame. Your guide offers real-time feedback on what you're composing, how to frame it, what your camera settings should be, and why. You'll have trekking poles available if you need them, and the guide stays with you throughout, offering advice and hands-on help so you leave with photos that actually capture what you came to shoot.
The day ends as the light changes over Yosemite's peaks: the moment most photographers come for. You'll be positioned and ready, with your guide walking you through the settings and the moment as it happens. A Yosemite reservation entry document is included. International visitors should note that National Park fees may apply and are collected when you arrive.

Is this one for you? This is a private workshop, so the guide tailors the pace and the focus to what you want to learn and shoot: ideal if you're working on specific techniques or want feedback on your own work rather than following a set itinerary. You choose whether to do both the morning and evening sessions or just one, so you can fit it around the rest of your Yosemite plans.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I do just the morning or just the evening session instead of the full day?
Yes. The workshop runs as two separate sessions: morning from before sunrise for three to four hours, and afternoon-to-evening from mid-afternoon through sunset for another three to four hours. You can join both or choose one based on what you want to photograph and what fits your schedule.
What if I'm a beginner and don't know how to use manual mode yet?
The guide customizes the instruction to your skill level, whether you're just starting out or have years of experience. You'll learn composition, framing, and camera settings tailored to what you need, with hands-on help throughout the day.
Will we be at the crowded viewpoints, or are these lesser-known spots?
Your guide takes you to hand-picked locations chosen for their light and their unique perspectives, including more secluded areas of the park away from the crowds, so you can photograph Yosemite's landscapes with room to work.
What's included in the workshop price?
The professional guide, the private instruction customized to your skill level, and a Yosemite reservation entry document are included. Trekking poles are available if you request them. National Park entrance fees may apply for international visitors and are paid when you arrive.
Do I need to be in very good physical shape to do this?
You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The day involves moving between locations and standing to photograph, and trekking poles are available if you need them. The workshop is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or pregnancy.
