Step-by-step itinerary

Full day fly fishing adventure

  • Begin at Basecamp Outfitter
  • Fish in Yosemite National Park or Stanislaus National Forest

The experience

The day starts at Basecamp Outfitter, where your private guide meets you and gathers information about what you want to catch and where you want to fish. Depending on conditions and your preferences, you'll head into Yosemite National Park or Stanislaus National Forest. The guide brings everything: fly rod, reel, waders, boots, flies and terminal tackle. You wade and walk the streams (between one and three miles total, some of it off-trail) casting for Brook Trout in water that shifts with the season and the weather.

Waders are provided based on conditions, and you'll carry water, a water filter and a first aid kit. The guide handles the technical side of the fishing while teaching you how to read the water and improve your cast. Catch-and-release is the rule, with barbless hooks only. Lunch is a custom hiker's meal built for the day you're having, eaten streamside or wherever the fishing takes you.

Transportation from your hotel is included, as is the national park entrance fee if applicable. The trip runs eight hours total, and you can book the 7 AM to 3 PM slot, 8 AM to 4 PM, 10 AM to 6 PM, or 12 PM to 8 PM departure. Pick the window that leaves you time for the rest of your day in the area. A minimum age of eight applies, and you'll need at least a moderate level of fitness for the walking and wading.

Is this one for you?One angler per booking means the guide's full attention is on you (your casting, your goals, your pace) rather than split between multiple rods. Pick the morning departure if you want to fish the prime hours before midday heat, or the afternoon slot if you're building the day around other Yosemite activities.
