The experience

You pick up your GoCar (a compact, open-air electric vehicle), and the GPS system takes over navigation. The car talks you through the route and feeds you facts about what you're passing: the lit-up USS Midway aircraft carrier, the Maritime Museum's historic ship glowing against the night sky, the Convention Center, Seaport Village where you can stop for a snack or browse shops. The vehicle holds two people, so if you're traveling as a pair, you're both in the same booking.

The route threads through downtown San Diego after dark, then moves into the Gaslamp Quarter (the city's historic neighborhood lit up for the holidays), and through Little Italy before heading to the harbor. You'll see the boats at sea strung with lights, then drive into Balboa Park, where the museums and grounds are lit for the season. Because you're driving, you set the pace: linger at a stop if something catches your eye, or keep moving through. The helmet is provided.

This is not a guided tour with someone narrating from the front seat. You're in control of the wheel and the speed, following the GPS directions and listening to the audio guide in English.
