The Experience
“Lean forward just a bit—there you go!” Our instructor grinned as I wobbled on the board, toes gripping the surface while sunlight bounced off the water. The bay felt calm, but there was a gentle buzz from other paddlers chatting nearby, some laughing at their first attempts to balance. We started on shore, learning how to hold the paddle and what to do if we fell in (which, honestly, made me feel better right away).
Pushing out into Haleiwa Bay, the water turned glassy and warm under my feet.
