You’ll ride through New York City in a private vehicle—limo, SUV or van—stopping for skyline photos at Brooklyn Bridge before wandering under Dyker Heights’ wild Christmas lights with a local guide who knows all the best spots. Expect music, laughter, and that warm holiday feeling you can’t fake.
I didn’t expect to feel like a little kid again just driving through Brooklyn, but that’s what happened on this Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour. We started out near Rockefeller Center — the crowds were thick and someone was playing “Jingle Bell Rock” from a tiny speaker. Our driver, Mike, grinned and handed us bottled water (and for those in the limo, there was actual champagne — I stuck to water, but still). The city felt different at night, all those lights bouncing off the glass buildings as we passed Hudson Yards. It was colder than I thought it’d be; my breath fogged up the window while I tried to snap a photo of Saks Fifth Avenue’s light show. Not my best shot, but whatever.
We stopped at Dumbo for that classic Brooklyn Bridge view — you know the one. There were other groups there too, everyone shuffling around trying to get their friends in frame with Manhattan behind them. Someone’s dog kept barking at the passing cars. Mike told us a bit about how long it takes locals in Dyker Heights to set up their decorations (weeks apparently), and how some families have been doing it for decades. I liked that he didn’t rush us; we could linger as long as we wanted before heading deeper into Brooklyn for the main event.
Dyker Heights itself is… honestly hard to describe without sounding cheesy. It’s loud — not just from people but from music blasting out of speakers hidden in plastic snowmen and Santas waving from porches. The air smelled faintly sweet, maybe hot chocolate from one of the stands? Kids ran past us with mittens trailing behind them and I swear every house tried to outdo its neighbor with more lights or bigger toy soldiers. At one point I just stopped walking and stared up at this house covered top-to-bottom in blue LEDs; felt like standing inside a snow globe. We wandered around until our toes went numb, then piled back into the van feeling kind of giddy and tired at once.
Your evening includes private transportation by limousine, SUV or van (with WiFi onboard), bottled water for everyone—and if you’re in the limo, a bottle of champagne on ice with glasses—plus all fees and taxes covered so you can just relax and enjoy each stop along NYC’s festive route before heading back.
