Redwoods, bridge views and Sausalito strolls in one day

You’ll cross the Golden Gate Bridge in a comfy van, walk quietly beneath ancient redwoods in Muir Woods, and have time to explore Sausalito’s waterfront at your own pace. With entry fees included and a local guide sharing stories along the way, expect real moments of wonder—and maybe even a new favorite spot for lunch.

5h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Cross Golden Gate Bridge
  • Stop for Golden Gate Bridge view
  • Walk among 1000-year-old Redwood trees
  • Explore Sausalito and have lunch

The Experience

Ever wondered what it feels like to stand under a tree that’s older than most countries? That was my first thought as our little group crossed the Golden Gate Bridge—fog rolling in just enough to blur the city behind us. Our guide, Sam, pointed out Alcatraz off to the left (he had a story for every landmark, honestly) and then we stopped at this vista point where you get that postcard view: bridge, skyline, even a couple of pelicans gliding by. Someone tried to take a selfie and nearly dropped their phone—Sam just grinned and said it happens daily.

The drive up to Muir Woods was quieter. I kept catching whiffs of eucalyptus through the cracked window. Once inside, it’s all hush—like everyone’s agreed not to talk above a whisper. The air felt damp and earthy, almost cold against my skin even though it was June. I wandered off for a bit on my own (you get more than an hour here), touching the bark—rough but cool—and reading those little signs about trees surviving fires and floods. At one point I just stood still listening to nothing but wind and birds overhead. It’s hard to explain unless you’re there.

Sausalito surprised me—I’d pictured something fancier but it’s got this laid-back charm. We walked along the boardwalk past houseboats painted every color you can think of; there was this old guy selling sketches by the dock who told us he’s lived there since ‘82. Lunch was up to us (I grabbed clam chowder from a place with windows open to the bay), then poked around some art galleries before heading back toward Pier 33. I’m still thinking about those trees though—you know?

What’s included

Your day includes comfortable transport in a Mercedes sprinter van across the Golden Gate Bridge, entry fees for Muir Woods so you can skip lines, plus plenty of free time both among the redwoods and along Sausalito’s waterfront before drop-off back in San Francisco.
