Five hours covers the route from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin Headlands, then into Muir Woods where you walk at your own pace on easy trails beneath 1000-year-old redwoods. The sprinter van holds a small group, and a local guide narrates the drive and the stops. You'll pause at Sausalito Vista Point for views of the bridge, Alcatraz Island and the city skyline before descending into the woods.

Muir Woods gives you an hour and fifteen minutes to walk the trails without a set route. The paths are easy and the redwoods fill the canyon floor. After the woods, the same time window opens in Sausalito on the boardwalk, where you can eat lunch, browse art galleries, watch houseboats, or buy souvenirs. The guide stays with the group but the pace is yours.

Pickup is your choice: the 8:30am or 9:45am departure leaves from 488 Post St. downtown (look for the black Mercedes van across the street) and ends at Pier 33, or you can start at Pier 33 on the 12:50pm or 2pm tour and return to either location. The entrance fee to Muir Woods is included. Food, drinks and any ferry tickets are on you.
