Kayaking in Oahu: North Shore Farm with sea turtles
Paddle at your own pace past sea turtles, then eat and explore on land
Kayak or stand-up paddleboard the Anahulu River at North Shore Farm on Oahu, spotting Hawaiian green sea turtles in their natural habitat. After paddling, you'll eat lunch overlooking the water, then walk the farm to meet goats, bunnies, ducks and turtles, finishing with fresh coconut, smoothies or shaved ice. The activity runs five hours and suits travelers 22 and older with moderate fitness.
The experience
What do you actually see when you paddle out on the Anahulu River? The majestic Honu, Hawaiian green sea turtles, swimming in their habitat. You choose whether to kayak a single or double boat, or stand-up paddleboard, and a certified lifeguard gets you fitted with equipment and life jackets before you head toward the ocean at your own pace. The water is calm enough that you set the rhythm. The turtles are the draw.
Lunch waits when you return: the menu includes coconut shrimp, spicy shrimp, garlic shrimp, teri-chicken, kalua pig, vegetable fried noodles, or sandwiches for kids. You eat overlooking the river and the farm. After that comes the self-guided walk through the property, you interact with the animals (goats, bunnies, ducks, land turtles), sit and watch, take photos, and if you're traveling with kids, there are games. The farm is wheelchair accessible and service animals are welcome.
Before you leave, grab a refreshing cold coconut, a smoothie, an acai bowl, or the farm's shaved ice. The whole experience runs about five hours from arrival to departure. All equipment is subject to availability. If you book a double kayak, you may share it with another guest, but that doesn't include an extra lunch.
