The Huntress Slot Canyon Adventure is a guided hiking and rappelling activity near Kanab where you hike into a slot canyon, make four rappels of increasing size through sandstone walls, and hike back out—all in about five hours with no experience required. Canyoneering equipment is provided. The first rappel is small, designed to let newcomers learn the technique before the canyon drops into larger intermediate rappels. Guides are professionally trained and speak English, Spanish, or Portuguese.

The Experience

The day starts with a hike into the canyon, then you clip into your harness for the first rappel—a small one that lets you get comfortable with the rope and the drop before anything steeper comes. From there the canyon opens into larger slot canyons as you descend through a series of intermediate rappels, each one winding through the sandstone walls. The whole experience runs about five hours from start to finish, and you'll need to arrive on time since the guides run multiple tours daily and won't wait more than 15 minutes past your scheduled start.

Canyoneering equipment—harness, rope, carabiners, everything you need to rappel safely—is included. No prior experience is necessary; the guides are professionally trained and will walk you through each rappel. The canyon itself does the teaching: each drop is a little bigger than the last, so by the time you're descending the larger intermediate rappels, you've already felt how the system works. The hike out follows the same route you came in on.
