The experience
You arrive at Fisherman's Wharf 15 minutes early for bike fitting and a quick test ride to dial in your setup. From there it's only 1.5 blocks to the car-free Bay Trail, the route that carries you past Fort Mason, through the Marina, and to the Palace of Fine Arts. Your guide walks you through San Francisco's layers as you go: the Gold Rush, the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, how the city rebuilt the Marina District. The architecture tells the story as much as the words do.
The ride flows through Crissy Field and the Presidio with views of the Golden Gate Bridge building in the distance, then you cross it. The bridge itself delivers what you came for: panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, the Pacific, Alcatraz Island, and the skyline all at once, all from the bike path. After the crossing, the route drops downhill into Sausalito, where the guided portion ends at a waterfront restaurant that opened in 2016 and has become a local draw. The menu runs to hearty salads, rotisserie chicken, and burgers, with local beer and wine. Your $20 voucher covers food or drink however you want to spend it, and you can eat indoors or on the patio overlooking the bay.
When lunch is done, your bike rental is good for the entire day. Ride back to San Francisco at your own pace, or bring the bike with you on the ferry boat if you'd rather not cycle the return. You return the bike whenever you're finished exploring.
