Glide through coral gardens with an expert who teaches you to breathe and move like a snorkeler, not a swimmer.

Private snorkeling lessons combine expert instruction, full equipment rental and a guided tour of shallow Atlantic waters near shore. A certified instructor teaches proper breathing, body position and technique over 2.5 hours, then leads you through the water to observe fish, sea stars, sea horses and octopuses in their natural habitat. Children from age 4 are welcome; wetsuits are provided as standard.

The Experience

Swimming and snorkeling are different skills, and this lesson teaches the distinction. A certified instructor meets you and starts on land, walking through breathing technique, mask clearing and body position before you enter the water. The shallow near-shore setting means you spend the session building confidence in the actual environment instead of a pool, with the guide watching your form and correcting the habits that hold swimmers back. Wetsuits come with the package, and all snorkeling gear is provided—you bring only your shoe sizes in advance so equipment fits properly.

Once you're comfortable in the water, the guide leads you on a private tour through the Atlantic. You move at your own pace, not a group's, and the instructor points out the marine life around you—schools of fish, sea stars, sea horses, octopuses—while you practice the techniques you just learned. The whole session runs 2.5 hours, leaving the rest of your day open. Small groups fill quickly, so the experience stays intimate and the guide can focus on your individual progress.

Is this one for you?The 2.5-hour session leaves your afternoon or morning free for other activities, and the private format means the instructor focuses on your individual progress rather than managing a group. Book this if you want to learn proper snorkeling technique from someone who corrects the habits swimmers bring to the water, rather than a group lesson where the pace suits the slowest person.

Top questions

What's the difference between snorkeling and swimming that makes this lesson necessary?

Snorkeling requires different breathing patterns, body position and relaxation than swimming does. A swimmer's instincts—kicking hard, staying vertical, holding tension—work against you underwater. This lesson teaches you to float horizontally, breathe steadily through your mouth, and move with minimal effort, so you glide instead of struggle.

Will I be in the water with other people, or is this just me and the instructor?

This is a private lesson, so it's you and the certified instructor one-on-one. The guide focuses entirely on your technique and comfort, not on managing a group.

What marine life will I actually see during the snorkeling part?

The guide leads you to spots where you'll encounter fish, sea stars, sea horses and octopuses in their natural habitat. What you see depends on the conditions and the season, but the instructor knows where to find active marine life in the near-shore waters.

Do I need to bring my own snorkeling gear, or is it all provided?

All snorkeling equipment is included—mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit. You only need to send your shoe sizes ahead of time so the fins fit properly.

Can my young child come along, or is there an age requirement?

Children are welcome from age 4. The instructor can adjust the pace and depth to suit younger learners, though they'll still learn proper snorkeling technique in shallow water.

How long does the whole lesson take, and what time of day does it run?

The session is 2.5 hours total. Call to confirm the specific departure time and to book your preferred time slot, as small groups fill up quickly.
