Three hours on Fort Lauderdale's sandbar, three ways to move through the water

You board a 24-foot boat for a 30-minute tour of Fort Lauderdale Bay, then anchor at the sandbar for paddle boarding, kayaking and snorkeling. Snorkel equipment and paddle boards are included. The whole experience takes around three and a half hours, and you're back on land with time left in your day.

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Boat tour of Fort Lauderdale Bay
  • Anchor at Fort Lauderdale Sand Bar
  • Paddle board at Sand Bar
  • Kayak at Sand Bar
  • Snorkel at Sand Bar

The Experience

You've just landed, checked into your hotel, and you've got an afternoon free. The boat leaves the dock and you're on the water within minutes — a 24-foot Sea Ray, captain at the helm, heading out into Fort Lauderdale Bay. The first thirty minutes is the tour part: you're moving, watching the shoreline change, getting your bearings from the water instead of a car. It's a different angle on the place.

Then the boat cuts the engine at the Fort Lauderdale Sandbar. This is where the three activities actually happen. You can paddle board, kayak, or snorkel — or rotate through all three if you want. The sandbar itself is shallow and clear, the kind of place where you can see what's below without diving. Snorkel gear is included, so you don't need to rent or bring your own. If you're not a swimmer or you want to stay above water, the paddle board and kayak are right there, and the captain stays anchored so there's no current to fight.

The whole thing runs about three and a half hours from start to finish. You're not rushed through stops or herded onto a bus. It's just the water, the sandbar, and whatever pace you set once you're there. The boat tour part gives you the geography; the sandbar part gives you time to actually be in it.

  • 30-minute guided boat tour of Fort Lauderdale Bay aboard a 24-foot Sea Ray.
